As someone who has struggled with journaling as a habit and generally doesn‘t know what to write about, journaling prompts are a huge help. They present a guide to follow that makes it easier to get into the habit of journaling.
Let me introduce a new monthly series on this blog: monthly journal prompts.
On the first of every month, I will post journaling prompts for myself and everyone who likes to join me in making journaling a consistent practice.
Now, if you‘re reading this:
Stop, get a notebook, come back, and copy the ones you like. Without further ado let us begin.
1 . MONTHLY CHECK-IN:
The Past Month:
- What were the highlights this month?
- What drained me this month?
- What gave me energy?
- What lessons did I learn?
This Month:
- What are my goals for this month?
- What intentions do I want to set? How can I remind myself of them?
- What new things do I want to try?
- How can I learn from last month’s lessons?
- How do I want to feel this month?
2. MONTHLY INs & OUTs
- What is ‘IN’ this month? (What things/habits do I want this month)
- What is ‘OUT’?
My INs and OUTs in April (as examples ofc):
IN:
- Building relationships
- Self-care
- Working on my blog
- Reading
- Less screen-time
- Saying yes to opportunities I want despite fears
OUT:
- Comparing myself
- Responding to other’s constant negativity
- Hitting snooze
- Procrastination
3. SELF-DISCOVERY:
- What fictional characters do I find comfort in/ are my comfort characters? In which Tv-Shows, Movies, or Books do I find comfort? Why do I think they comfort me?
- What song lyrics do I like? What song lyrics or even songs do I relate to?
- What feelings/situations make me comfortable? Which feelings/situations make me uncomfortable? (Example: the feeling of sitting near a fire(comfortable), the feeling before a presentation (uncomfortable))
- What are 10 character traits I like about myself? How can I emphasize them?
- What are 10 character traits I do not like about myself? How can I change them or accept them?
4. DEFINITIONS:
There are certain terms everyone defines differently. Knowing your own definitions helps you get more of an understanding of your belief system.
- How do I define success?
- How do I define failure?
- How do I define a strong person?
- How do I define healthy?
- How do I define religion/my faith?
5. LISTS:
- Top 10 Self-Care activities
- My top 10 favorite foods
- Ranking my favorite subjects in high school
6. LETTERS:
- Write a letter to a person you wanted to apologize to but never did. (You don‘t have to send it to them or ever show it to someone, just writing helps you process it.)
7. CHANGE IN ORDER TO GROW:
On my Instagram I‘m often asked how to change and how to evolve into the “best version of yourself” so here‘s a flow chart (i think it‘s called a flow chart) on how the process of change happens. Oftentimes there is a trigger, something that motivates you or leaves you with a desire to change. Whenever this happens I try to calm my emotions and reflect on them. After a process of self-discovery and reflection, I normally have a better understanding of what I want to change and the motivation behind it. Now I‘m ready to make a plan on how to change based on which I will take action.
Since journaling plays a big part in this through self-reflection and also planning, sort of, I encourage you to change one thing, no matter how little, in your life through this process.
8. RELATIONSHIPS:
- Who am I friends with? How would I describe these friendships? Are they different from each other? How? Are there any issues? If yes, how can they be solved?
- How am I in friendships? What do I value in a friend?
- What friendships didn‘t work out in the past? How can I learn from them?
9. GOALS:
- Where do I see myself three months from now? What kind of person do I want to become? What kind of life do I want to live?
10. GRATITUDE:
- What are ten things I’m genuinely grateful for?
- How can I be grateful for my past self? What did she do for my current self and my future self?
