The old money and quiet luxury trend have been quickly spreading and social media. The trend promotes how people with old money in mostly Europe or America would dress. It consists of mostly simple but elegant looks with pieces that look expensive but not flashy, free of designer logos. It’s the idea that only those in certain societies can tell the difference between if that one piece is expensive or not.
Regardless the simple elegant style is for everyone and doesn’t need to be expensive. Here are seven things that scream expensive in the simplest way.
NAVY BLUE
Navy Blue items deliver that effortless clean look with an expensive note if styled right. Especially if worn either from head to toe or styled with light tones like beige or white.
The color screams old money and quiet luxury. It delivers a freshness that reminds you of looking at the blue of the ocean while tanning on your boat (which is totally relatable for the average person *not*).
When worn by men it resembles the suits of successful businessmen and their off-springs wearing Ralph Lauren.
TURTLENECKS
A simple Turtleneck is a staple piece and can be worn on many occasions. It can be dressed down or dressed up and is always an elegant option.
My personal favorite is a Turtleneck Tank Top. It doesn’t look too over the top but still delivers that expensive undertone.
THE WHITE SUMMER DRESS
Even though it‘s rarely represented in the old money aesthetic, the white summer dress has that elegant, feminine, and classy look. The white color gives the dress a clean look. Most dresses have tiny details that compliment the aesthetic well.
Similar to this cream-colored dresses have nearly the same effect.
BEIGE
Beige and cream tones feel very luxurious in fashion as well as in interior design. They go well with a lot of colors and can be seen as staple pieces. As a light tone, it gives off a clean and put-together look.
As for pieces, it goes from pants to skirts to tops and even jackets, blazers, and shoes for every occasion.
MAXI SKIRTS
Maxi Skirts are a good alternative to long pants or jeans on warm days.
They‘re elegant, and simple and can be dressed up or down which can mostly be done through the material of the piece or the shoes.
PEARLS
To me, nothing screams old money more than pearls, whether incorporated in clothing or worn as jewelry in necklaces, bracelets, or earrings.
Pearls can be worn on many occasions and are the perfect accessory for simple, classy outfits.
PONYTAILS
Technically I cheated because it‘s not a fashion item but it still belongs on this list. Clean, elegant ponytails are so old money. They remind me of education and academia as well as just of a put-together, organized, and reliable individual.
