How To Romanticize Your Life In 10 Ways

We all want our life to be a movie where everything we do is exciting. Unfortunately, life seems mundane and boring most of the time. But hey that’s life. However, we have control over how our life seems, at least to some degree.

Romanticizing your life is a great tool to shift the perspective and make the mundane every day more exciting.

Let me share 10 ways to romanticize your life and find joy in your every day.

1. Fully appreciate little moments

Let those sunsets, nice gestures, funny coincidences, and small moments of luck sink in. Pause for a moment and experience how warm these moments feel. Bring awareness to this moment and try to install this memory in your mind.

If you actively pause and direct your focus toward the joy you’re experiencing, you’ll carry this joy through the entire day.

Appreciate nature more. Even if you live in a big city, make an effort to spend at least a few minutes in a park, appreciating sunsets or looking at the moon. Nature is completely free and can be an anchor in stressful times.

2. Dress to impress (yourself)

Have you ever worn your favorite outfit and you felt 10x better in everything you did that day? More happy? More confident?

Clothes can have a big impact on how we feel. It’s how we express ourselves and they should make us feel comfortable. Stop saving your favorite pieces for special occasions if you like them, wear them, they will make this day special. And only buy outfits that make you feel good.

I like to wear matching pajama sets, they are a piece whenever I wear them I feel like the main character, I feel put together. Do whatever makes you feel fancy. Dress only for your own comfort and enjoyment.

Focus on your appearance a little more and it’ll make a huge difference. Just add some jewelry to your outfit, wear your favorite perfume, and moisturize your lips. This will take five minutes but it’s a game changer (speaking from experience).

3. Write about your life

Keep a diary. Write about your life as if you’re the main character. Through journaling you can change the narrative and get excited about small things.

Imagining your life is a movie you can shift your perspective. It keeps me motivated through tough times because it’s just another battle the hero has to face and comes out an improved wiser version of themselves. These challenges you face are what make life interesting. Be honest, you probably would be bored watching a movie where everything runs smoothly.

Writing about your life might make you realize that the plot of your story can be quite interesting. Or it makes you aware of where your story could lead. Or you decide it’s time for a plot twist.

4. Take pictures and videos

Living in the moment is great and I make an effort to not film everything. However, I like to snap a couple of pictures or videos as a memory.

Looking at these pictures can refresh your memory and bring emotions back. It’s much easier for the brain to recognize information than to recall it. That’s why going through pictures and videos can bring back joy even months or years later because that memory is associated with emotions.

Taking pictures of small things in everyday life is an excellent practice of being present and appreciating these small moments I talked about earlier. Whenever you’re delighted, in awe or find joy in something take a quick picture of it.

The collection of such photos is a lovely reminder of how awesome life can be on smaller scales and bigger scales and everything in between.

5. Call something your signature (anything)

Have a signature scent. A signature drink. A signature color. Have something that’s YOU. Almost every person has something that makes you think of them. Did you ever go shopping and think: “This is something my friend would like, it’s so her”.

While I love having multiple interests and liking so many different things. I love to have something that is me.

You might already have a signature thing. Realizing this will make you feel so special.

6. Playlists: Create your own (movie) soundtrack

Have you ever read a book or watched a movie with a playlist and now whenever you hear a certain song it connects to that movie or book?

Having playlists can help you romanticize your life so much. Create playlists for different occasions or moods. Music can elevate and empathize moments and emotions. It’s a powerful tool you can use to your advantage.

7. Make your environment aesthetically pleasing

Stop having a messy unorganized room. Keep it as clean and organized as possible and decorate. Your environment has a huge impact on your mood, for some of us more and for some less, but it’s still a key factor.

Search for inspiration and make sure your room feels comforting and looks aesthetically pleasing. Apply that to other rooms as well if you live in a house or apartment. Make your space smell nice by opening your windows regularly, and have nice smelling candles or sprays.

Not only does a clean and pretty space help romanticize your life it also improves focus, reduces stress, and improves your mental health.

8. Self-Care Rituals

Have rituals that you wholeheartedly enjoy like having a coffee in the morning, doing your skin care, a shower routine, going on a walk, reading. Make time for little rituals of self-care in your day. Not habits that require discipline, rituals that you like to do. These rituals will set the mood of the day, they help find joy even on the worst days.

A ritual could also be a Self-Care night once a week. Whatever it is, schedule self-care. Yes, I said ‘schedule’ like a task because it is important to actively make time for yourself. Whether that be little moments every day, scheduled parts of your week, or both. Trust me once you do this it will be a game changer.

9. Solo-Dates

If you’ve been on wellness social media for a while you might have heard of this before. It’s a really effective method to romanticize your life.

Solo-Dates mean taking yourself on a date to a restaurant, to the park to read or journal, on a shopping date, or doing things you do with others with yourself. By taking yourself out on a date you’re practicing enjoying your own company if you’ve struggled with that before, you build confidence by doing things in public on your own and it teaches you to rely on and trust yourself more.

You don’t need to wait for others to have a good time, you can make life more fun yourself.

10. Show affection to yourself and others

Show them that you care. Be mindful of small details. Expressing your love for others doesn’t only make them feel good but also makes you happy. Write notes for them, remember birthdays, and bring back little gifts from your vacation.

A small gesture goes a long way. Obviously don’t bombard them with gestures but it’s nice to be thought about and maybe they will return the favor.

Show yourself love as well. Write letters to your past, future, and present self. Buy your favorite snack, cook yourself a nice meal, decorate your environment, and leave yourself little notes. Make yourself feel loved.
