the origin
‘The Hot Girl Walk’- a trend that isn’t just explicitly trending on wellnesstok but has made it on many for you pages since its invention by Mia (@exactlylikeothergirls on TikTok) in 2020. The hashtag (#hotgirlwalk) has now over 500 Million views on TikTok.
But why has it become so popular? Nowadays there are a lot of stupid ideas and concepts trending so the increase of attention is not the question that should be asked instead the question arises why have so many people jumped on the trend?
I can only speculate about the reason. Reason number one could be that since the trend emerged during the pandemic when people were quarantined and most had to stay home, the trend proposed an opportunity to leave the house as well as include mental health benefits with which many were struggling. Secondly, walks are a form of exercise and movement but not highly physically demanding which made them enjoyable to the majority of people.
how to go on a ‘hot girl walk’
Let’s talk about how to actually do the hot girl walk. Based on its name we expect something more than just walking and originally there is more to it than just walking.
However, don’t be intimidated it’s pretty simple: when going on your walk think about these three things: things you’re grateful for, how hot you are (or just positive affirmations), and your goals.
What I just described was the original version of a hot girl walk but as time went on the term became broader and the way you take your walk is pretty much up to you whether you want to listen to music, listen to a podcast, walk in silence or talk to a friend, it doesn’t really matter as long as you move your body. Try to at least move your body for thirty minutes to get your system going.
For longer walks make sure to bring water with you to prevent dehydration, especially in hot temperatures. Also please make sure you are safe and never walk the same route too often for your own safety.
benefits
Not only did many start going on ‘hot girl walks’ but most of them reported positive results. These ranged from mental health improvements to physical transformations to mindset shifts. This long-lasting trend has a lot of benefits such as:
- health benefits since it’s a form of movement that also releases endorphins which contribute to mood and life satisfaction
- it’s completely free
- it’s not as physically demanding as a workout which makes it a more enjoyable form of movement for the vast majority
- it lets you breathe fresh air and absorb the sunlight
- it reframes your mindset through affirmations and guided thinking
- it acts as a way of relaxation and de-stressing from a stressful day
- it gives you space to think and free your mind after a demanding day
- spending time with yourself and connecting to yourself
is it worth it?
I stumbled across the idea of ‘hot girl walks’ relatively late at the beginning of 2022. Ever since then I’ve implemented them into my routine and make it a priority to regularly go on a walk, sometimes with a friend too.
They help me destress and clear my head after a long demanding day and get away from screens for a while. Last fall when my mental health was at a low point I went more frequently which instantly made me feel better and over time slowly improved my mental health.
Personally, I encourage you to try out this ‘trend’ and see if it benefits you as it did many others.
